I painted this still life for this year’s exhibition theme, ‘HOME’. This 1m x 1m oil painting took me 8 weeks to complete and is filled with treasures from my childhood, from the first issue of Marvel’s Star Wars comic to the rare Red Bar variant Kenner R5-D4 figure, vintage 1970’s sweets like Jelly Tots, Superman sweet cigarettes, Wrigley’s Gum and a classic 1970’s Coke can. I’ve also included Horror Top Trumps and Panini Secret Wars cards. Each object holds a personal memory, a blend of pop culture, nostalgia, and moments that shaped my early years, carefully arranged considering the colour and hierarchy to maintain balance and harmony to the many items within the painting.
