This is a freestanding work with finished painting and a small sketchbook with 30 sketches. Done on white and tinted paper in water-soluble pastel with the occasional touch of oil pastel it illustrates one of the components of painting that I think should be considered in whatever medium you may work in. The finished painting is completed in soft pastel with an initial drawing done in water-soluble pastel.I borrowed colour beginnings from JMW Turner; part of his painting process. I draw in colour (a quote by Monet) usually starting in the complementary colours of red, blue and yellow from which all colours may be created. Warm colour comes forward; cold colour goes backwards (ariel perspective.) I live in Bath; a World Heritage City of architecture, urban landscape, water and light with a backdrop of green hills. This sketchbook (Seawhite) was completed in 2024 from recent walks regularly taken around the city.
