My Marine Collection work is inspired by the silhouettes and contours of shells and underwater creatures, and the patterns created by the rhythmic gradation of the beach from sand to gravel arranged in carefully sorted bands by the tide. All pieces are hand built from coils using stoneware clay and the surfaces textured to create different levels and depths. These are enhanced by the subsequent use of oxides and glaze after the bisque firing. The glaze is applied in several layers to produce a range of colours, from blue and green to more earthy hues giving the vessels an organic and aged appearance.
