This painting depicts a swath of buttercups on the slopes of the South Downs. I have worked to convey the vastness of the flowers, and show the jewel like colours of the flowers as they bob in the breeze. This is further set off, by the muted colours I have used to depict the slope of the rolling Downs, and the view of the Weald as it disappears into the distance. This is as rare chalkland landscape, and is dazzling to see across the seasons, particular during Spring and Summer with the meadow flowers, such as these buttercups.
