I was inspired by the contrasting colours and shapes of the objects in this painting, as well as exploring themes of memory and belonging. I have a collection of bottles either found or given to me, the two on the right and left were found on the farm I grew up on and still have some soil from the land inside. I love the delicate shapes and forms of physalis plants and fruits, contrasted with the tones and solidity of the pomegranate and jug. I painted on collaged papers including an old dress pattern as well as rice paper, which I think helps to create shifting dynamics in the piece.
