The red studio idea is derived from the iconic image of Matisse. Reds come with a gentle feel because of comforting tones; a dining room may be decorated in red as it adds a womblike, safe, warm, all-providing atmosphere. This artwork was created in a working at home studio, using portrait and flesh toned Unison chalk pastels. Many homely as well as arty details are incorporated; the bay window, a portrait leaning against the wall. Chairs, carpets, the table. There are two easels as well as boards covered in drawings and a mirror reflecting lights. A studio light glows over the table. We are looking into a bay window with a large portrait leaning against the middle panes. Seeing the paper through the pastel brings forth the light as it bounces from object to eye. Some marks in the original drawing are in conte and red chalk. The work covers the entire paper which will be mounted sensitively to show the very edges.
