This is a freestanding work with a finished painting and small sketches illustrating a painting process that I pursue using narrative, composition, drawing, tone and colour to achieve the finished work. I sketch a lot, whether in front of the subject or in the studio with most work in soft pastel finished in the studio. All the work done at the sketch stage is usually in water-soluble pastel with the occasional touch of oil and soft pastel. This finished painting is completed entirely in soft pastel.We visit Norfolk regularly for the big skies, light, water and a landscape that has a sense of little change from earlier, slower times. A search for nostalgia is a result of frequent anxiety and depression that is always with me. This work was completed in 2024 from a recent visit.
