. A lot of flat colour in geometric abstract form. I am a big fan of the work of Malevich and Liubov Popova as well as a good few of their contemporaries at the time. The work these artists do is purely abstract, but I have taken my inspiration from them and used this in my own way as a complete contrast to my more free style drawing so black and white to colour hard edged to more free gestural expressive lines etc all pretty obvious. But these elements are carefully worked out and I do take the portrait form elements into account going with and offsetting and expanding on more obvious lines (say the line of the bridge of the nose etc) as well as more subtle lines (could be a shadow or a line I would just put in). So this is an exploration and experimental approach I am currently working on, trying to make an interesting dialogue between both the abstract and representational / gestural. Trying to find that balance of opposites and open an interesting dialogue between both is where I hope the piece works. We all need to find our quiet moments and our own balance in our life.
