This drawing was made from life in a room filled with the soft conversation of over 20 orphaned swifts, which were being cared for in Yorkshire by a dedicated vet. This summers heatwaves, intensified by the climate crisis, have caused especially large numbers of young swifts to jump from their nests prematurely to escape the heat. Although a crochet nest isnt their ideal home, it is the reality for many swifts who are lucky enough to get a second chance at taking to the skies of our changing world.
